Helicopter with Iranian President on board crashes due to „technical failure“ – media

Iranian agency IRNA has reported that the crash of the helicopter with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on board occurred due to a technical failure.

Details: This was stated in a publication with archive photos of the deceased president that he „was martyred on Sunday (19 May, 2024) in a helicopter crash that happened due to technical failure“.

Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), stated that a military delegation jointly with experts started investigating the cause of the incident on site of the crash. They will be disclosed later.

Background:

It was reported earlier that a helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi likely crashed on Sunday.
On 20 May, rescue workers found the crashed helicopter that was carrying the Iranian President, Iranian Foreign Minister and other officials.  
Iran’s state news agency IRNA reported on the morning of 20 May that the Iranian President and Foreign Minister had been killed in a helicopter crash on 19 May.
