Details: The Ukrainian was more aggressive in the opening round, which led to a victory. All five judges favoured Khyzhniak. The position remained unchanged in the second round, leaving Oleksandr with a comfortable lead heading into the final round.

Khyzhniak finished the first two rounds with a score of 5-0. The only thing that could have saved the Brazilian was a quick win. However, this did not happen, and the Ukrainian advanced to the semifinals, which will take place on 4 August.

It is worth noting that with this victory, Khyzhniak secured himself a medal in the 2024 Olympics, as boxing does not have a final for bronze. The 28-year-old Ukrainian athlete won silver at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. In the final, he lost to Brazilian Hebert Conceição via a technical knockout in the third round.

In the round of 16, Khyzhniak defeated ex-Ukrainian Pylyp Akilov, representing Hungary, on a judge’s decision.

Previously, it had been reported that Oleksandr Usyk met with the Ukrainian Olympic boxing team, handed over envelopes containing cash rewards to the athletes, and promised a big prize payment for medals in Paris out-of-pocket.
